U.S. Highway 441, a heavily traveled route, intersects I-85 and provides a scenic and direct link to both the North Georgia mountains and the city of Athens, approximately 20 minutes south, home of the University of Georgia. The county is within an hour’s drive to both Lake Hartwell and Lake Lanier.
