Located in the picturesque Northeast Georgia region, Banks County has evolved to successfully combine the qualities of serene rural living with the necessities for modern day convenience. Sitting at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the county encompasses 231 square miles at an elevation of 1700 feet.
The county is strategically located on Interstate-85 only 62 miles northeast of Atlanta, Georgia’s capital city. Greenville, South Carolina and Charlotte, North Carolina are within a short drive to the northeast. U.S. Highway 441, a heavily traveled route, intersects I-85 and provides a scenic and direct link to both the North Georgia mountains and the city of Athens, approximately 20 minutes south, home of the University of Georgia. The county is within an hour’s drive to both Lake Hartwell and Lake Lanier.
Highway 441, Georgia highways 15, 51 and 98 all access the interstate.
