Banks County Recreational
Banks County residents have supported the expansion of the county’s recreation facilities through a special local option sales tax.
Located on Thompson Street in Homer, 100 acres of the 750-acre parcel owned by the county is dedicated to recreational facilities that include five ball fields, a full-size track, a horse arena, picnic pavilions, and a cardio-vascular fitness trail. Fall Sports
- Flag football:ages5-6 and 7-8
- Tackle football:ages 9-10 and 11-12
- Cheerleading: ages 5-12
- Soccer: ages 5-8 and 9-12
Winter Sports
- Basketball:ages 5-12, boys and girls
Spring Sports
- T-Ball:ages 5-6, open to boys and girls
- Pitching machine baseball;ages 7-8
- Pitching machine softball:ages 7-8, girls
- fast-pitch softball:ages 9-14, girls
- Baseball:ages9-14
Horse Arena
The horse arena at the recreation department is home to two area horse clubs: the Banks Crossing Saddle Club and the Banks County Horse Association. Both clubs hold sanctioned quarter horse shows and riding exhibitions.
The Banks County 4-H Horsemanship Club also holds saddle bred riding events during the school year.
Fitness Trail
Adjacent to the horse arena is a one-half mile cardio-vascular fitness trail with exercise and resting stations.
Picnic Pavilions and Grills
Two covered pavilions with picnic tables and grills are located near the fitness trail.
